Space Hippie is an exploratory sneakers shoes for men collection  inspired by life on Mars—where materials are scarce and there is no resupply mission. Created from scraps, or "space junk", Space Hippie is the result of sustainable practices meeting radical design. “If you’re going to build a shoe on Mars, how would you go about that? What would that experience be like?” a spokesperson for Nike asked during the Space Hippie press launch earlier this year. “Well, you can only take certain things with you and you’d have to find materials there… There was this kind of thinking about living off the land and making use of what you have. It’s like the hippies… space hippies.” While space exploration and living life on Mars is one integral aspect of the Space Hippie Program, at its core is addressing a problem right here on Earth.  "Space Hippie product presents itself as an artifact from the future. It's avant garde; it's rebelliously optimistic," says John Hoke, Nike Chief Design Officer in a Nike News piece. "Space Hippie is also an idea. It is about figuring out how to make the most with the least material, the least energy and the least carbon."  Part of Nike‘s move toward more sustainable practices, the  Space Hippie collection is crafted from scrap materials reclaimed from factory floors. The Space Hippie program marks Nike’s first foray into circular design, and a radical one at that. The first Filipino artist to officially collaborate with Adidas clothing and apparel continues with a limited edition tee release. Designer and artist Quiccs, known for his world of toys heavily inspired by Japanese culture meshed with hip-hop, have already created an impressive line of collaborations with adidas, including Philippine-exclusive adidas Superstar colorways paired with matching NanoTEQs.  The first official collaboration with the Three Stripes hones in on Quiccs’ Filipino roots with design elements inspired by the Philippine flag, as well as what is arguably the biggest sport in the country: basketball. “We've designed these shirts with Philippine Basketball in mind, why we've chosen to include some representations of the Philippine flag colors and derivatives of the flag elements and the sport of Basketball,” adidas Philippines shares in a press release. “The shirt designs capture all of the elements that have influenced Quiccs into a fun, vibrant set of apparel clothing. The Quiccs Manila Tee Pack features Quiccs most iconic character, TEQ63, laced with adidas gear, and ready to hoop for the country. The Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk is about “incorporating past ideas in a new era — designing with purpose and cultural relevance to come up with something new,” according to Off-White’s Virgil Abloh. The silhouette merges elements of the Nike Pegasus line with the Nike Dunk to honor Nike’s legacy in technical innovation and nod to skateboarding’s history of experimentation. Each colorway will release with exclusive regional availability: the Black, White and Green Strike colorway in the Americas; the University Gold and Black colorway in China and Asia-Pacific; the White and University Blue colorway across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The newly announced collaboration with Los Angeles shop Union and Converse shoes seems to have all the markings of a classic. Layered with meaning and undeniably clean, the collaborative Chuck Taylor All-Star Hi and its corresponding apparel collection are steeped in narrative depth. Both the shoe and the apparel are heavily swathed in a “Harlem Toile” print designed by acclaimed designer Sheila Bridges. The print has been featured in the Museum of Art and Design in New York, the Musée De La Toile De Jouy in France, and even on the walls of Union Japan. Union, a progenitor of New York City’s streetwear scene in the early ’90s co-founded by James Jebbia of Supreme, is now running the show over on the West Coast by Chris Gibbs. “I am just honored to be able to work with Sheila Bridges, Gibbs tells HYPEBEAST. “Long before we met I was just a fan of her Harlem Toile, not only as just a beautiful piece of art — which it is — but also as critique, if you will, on race relations in this country.” According to Sheila Bridges, the “Harlem Toile” print satirizes stereotypes deeply woven into the African American experience while referencing traditional French toile with its pastoral motifs from the late 1700s. “As a shoe, the Chuck Taylor is an archetype, it’s just a classic silhouette and its simple design allows, really begs, for art like this to be applied,” according to Gibbs. The Chuck Taylor upper acts as a literal canvas for the print, which is also replicated on the insoles and box. Finishing details are supplied by a small yellow Union tag on the medial eyestay seam, a leather All-Star patch on the lateral collar, white rubber toe caps/midsoles and yellow rubber outsoles.
